Book Review

hunted_house_of_night_book_5-123238299570453OK so I started this almost a month ago. I’m sorry it has taken me so long to finish it. I refuse to give anything away in book reviews because fankly I hate that. There is nothing worse than reading a book review and getting the whole story in it. So you will never see me do that. You may also notice that I read a lot of vampire books. I just want to say that I’ve been fascinated by vampires since I was little (it didn’t start when Twilight came out). So I’ll admit that a huge chunk of fiction books that I read are about vampires. Now on to the review!

Hunted is the fifth book in the House of Night series. I started reading this series last year and became instantly addicted. Its so easy for me to read (I’m almost 10 years older than the target audience, but whose counting). Which is a nice departure from my favorite book series (Russian and Romanian words make for long reading experiences) and all the science books I read. The alternate reality it takes place in is written well. Lots of little things are thrown in to make it work. Like celebrity name dropping (confirming their vampyre status). The religion in the books interesting. It seems so natural that there would be a fanatical religious group opposed to the vampyres.  There are two things that bug me in the series. The first is the fact that the entire series takes place in the span of about six months. Its a little bit far fetched. I’ll talk about the other one later. Enough about the series, now to talk about the book.

OK, I really couldn’t put this book down once I started reading it. I finished it in less than 24 hours. That’s how captivating I find it. I just really had to know what happened to Zoey (the main character). The other thing that bugs me about the book is Zoey’s constant boy drama. Its been consistent throughout the series but I just find it boring now. I’ve never known anyone to have that much trouble with guys, but then again this is a book about vampyres (yes I’m spelling it correct). Then again when I think about it I feel like it balances her out. On one hand she has all these amazing gifts to control the five elements; but on the other she keeps screwing up with all these guys (all at the same time). OK it doesn’t bug me so much anymore. I really love all of the characters (even the bad ones). They are put together so well. Also the amazing amount of web content to go with the stories is great. Videos, pictures, and biographies on the official web site are a nice insight and help me really see the story while I’m reading it.

Anyways, the story flows constantly. I never got bored with the book. I’m really interested in the red fledglings and Stevie Rae now. I honestly didn’t really care too much about them before this book. I’m dying to know more about what they really are and what they can do. In fact I read for about two hours straight without even realizing it. The book has a really nice conclusion. One that left me feeling satisfied but also wanting more. I find that many books in a series end abruptly and give no real closure to the individual book. This series has had a satisfying conclusion with every book.

So if you’re into vampire books or young adult novels give the book series a try.

Side note: I’m totally out of books to read (and I have a ton of books) and I have no spare money to buy any. So if you decide to ever buy anything I happen to talk about on the site please please use the Amazon links sprinkled all over the place (hey, I hate talking about money but this way I can buy more stuff to review).
