Florida Trip
First of all check out the video from the launch. I was trying to take pictures at the same time (none of which turned out) so its shakey, and pointing in the wrong direction at first.
Alrighty let’s see here. I’m a big ole space nerd. So naturally when I heard about the send your name into space program I was super excited. I promptly signed up for my name to be added to the list going up with Kepler. I was already excited about the mission so this was the icing on the cake. Check out the cool certificate that I got. (Pic is pretty big so be careful when you click on it).
My friend James (I edit his blog so go and check it out) lives pretty close to Cape Canaveral so he told I should come down for the launch. So I got me a hotel for the weekend and not so patiently waited the few weeks. I left for Melbourne on Thursday afternoon. Freaking 95 is the ultimate suck. Why is there so much construction going on? I mean seriously guys, there should be a limit to how much can be under construction at one time.
Anyways James and I hung out since the launch wasn’t until Friday night. During the day we went and saw an Annie Leibovitz show at a museum, checked ou
t some galleries, and hung out at the beach. Very cool. I like Melbourne’s little art scene. Saturday we went to the Cocoa Village Craft Fair. That was pretty fun. Although the only thing I bought was a book from a used books store. I haven’t gone to anything artsy in a while so I really enjoyed it.
The launch itself was a pretty cool thing to experience. I’d love to be able to go see a shuttle launch now. I parked right next to the river (there was maybe 10 feet between my car and water) and was sitting in the car when someone pulls up behind me. They kept going pulling to the side; the side where the water was. I’m not sure how they didn’t go in but I was a little freaked out. I really don’t have much to say about the launch other than it was so awesome and I really really enjoyed it (master of words right here). All in all I had a fabulous time.
