The Great Planet Debate

The Great Planet Debate: Science As Process begins today at The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory. It is three days long. The first two days will consist of debates and panel discussions over how planets should be classified. The third days will be educator workshops.

The highlight though is the debate between Neil deGrasse Tyson and Mark Sykes today at 4:30. There is a live web cast available for those who registered in time (of course I didn’t know about this until today).

What do you think should classify a body as a planet? Should our known solar system be the eight planets Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune? Or should Ceres, Pluto & Charon (double planet system), Eris, and Makemake bring us to 13 planets? Tell me what you think!
