This book series is fantastic. I read the whole thing in about a week. The series for the most part centers around a girl named Tally in a future world (about 300 years) where looks are everything. Once you turn 16 you get your surgery and transform from an Ugly to a Pretty. The first three books center around Tally and the things she faces to first become a Pretty, her fight to stay herself, and all the changes she goes through with multiple surgeries. The fourth book takes place in a different city with the main character being Aya. However Tally and her crew show up to save the day.

I really enjoyed these books. Mainly because I’m jealous of the technology they have. It also serves as a great example of what our world is coming to. In the series our civilization died out due to our dependence on oil. An engineered bug made oil catch fire when exposed to oxygen. Its a scary though, but it really makes you think what would happen to us if something happened like that.

Back to that technology. How cool would it be to be able to have anything you want be made by a hole in your wall? I really loved the eye enhancements that serve as little computer screens. Also, being able to send people messages or even talk to them without the use of a phone is quite nice as well. All of these and more are in these books. Its so fascinating to think about.

Now, actually about the story. Tally is an Ugly approaching her 16th birthday when she’ll be able to become a Pretty. Her new friend Shay runs away right before her own surgery to avoid it. Tally is then forced to set out after her and bring her back before she’ll be allowed to join the ranks of the Pretties. Tally then enters a new world where people live out in wild as opposed to living in the strict confines of a city. Tally falls in love with the wild (and a boy) and wishes to remain this way. Unfortunately the city officials have other plans.

The second book centers around Tally’s life as a Pretty and her struggle to return to her old self. The third book has Tally in a whole new situation where she is something very different, very Special.

Ok, thats all I’ve got. I won’t give any more away about the books because I want you to go read them for yourself.
