Hidden Worlds January 2023 FairyLoot

As you can guess, the January fairyloot box arrived almost two full weeks into February. I’ve only been getting this subscription for a few months but overall, it does seem to run later than others. However, fairyloot as been great at keeping their shipping page updated so we know when things are expected and why there might be a delay. With that said, let’s look at the Hidden Worlds box!

Fairyloot is a monthly young adult book subscription box. You receive four bookish items per box along with that month’s book. They also offer a book only option and an adult book only option as well. Due to their popularity there is a waitlist for their subscriptions so if you are interested you should sign up today!

Spoilers ahead! If you haven’t received your January fairyloot box yet and would like to still be surprised then I suggest skipping this post.

Items

Let’s look at the four bookish items included in this box.

We Hunt The Flame Scrunchy

Alright, this is probably the biggest dud from any of the fairyloot boxes I’ve received. I have not read this book which is true for about half of the items I’ve received in their boxes. However, considering we get four items per box, to have one of those be a scrunchy is a little disappointing. While the design is beautiful, it just isn’t something I see myself using. My sister and niece are both Leos though, which might make this a perfect gift for one of them.

Another not so great item in this box. This sleep mask, while stunning, is still an item that feels like it would be on the lower value side. Considering the previous item as well it is a little disappointing. I will say that the design matches the book and that is a plus.

The Stardust Thief Qadir Pin

I have to be honest on this one. I haven’t read The Stardust Thief by Chelsea Abdullah, which means I’m not sure of the meaning behind this one. It is a gorgeous purple and gold enamel pin of a lizard with cloud and star details. I am going to have to add it to my TBR now though because the pin does have me intrigued and after reading the synopsis I’m really excited to read it.

This is one of the reasons that I love book boxes. You never know what you might get that will inspire your next read!

Collection Of Magical Tomes Vol. 1

A Beginner’s Guide To Portal Magic

OK, they got me. This item might just make up for the other three. It looks like we’ll be getting a few of these hollow books this year which is really exciting. The first one looks like a book titled A Beginner’s Guide To Portal Magic. Unlike the metal hollow book boxes I’ve received from other subscriptions, this one actually looks like a book. It can fit seamlessly into your shelf or it can be used as a stand alone decoration.

Other Items

This month’s tarot cards are The Devil and The World.

Of course there is also the art print with a letter from the author as well as the bookmark. I think I found what that hollow book is going to be filled with now!

Book: Spice Road by Maiya Ibrahim

I’m not sure if these pictures can do justice to just how gorgeous this book is! Everyone loves a good sprayed edge and the top and bottom feature that beautiful dark teal all around while the side has stencil work that matches the dust jacket. It also matches that sleep mask that came in the box!

This is also one of the few times where I really love the reversible dust jacket. Most of the time I find the artwork on them to be too cartoonish. While I think fan art has a time and place, I don’t want it on the dust jacket for a special edition book and many times thats what they feel like. The end papers also match the art on the dust jacket and the art print making this one of the most cohesive boxes I think I’ve ever gotten.

The showstopper for this book though is the hard cover. Again, the photo is not doing the gold foiling justice. It is stunning with the deep red of the cover. The design is simple yet intricate at the same time. Overall this book is one of the few 10/10 that I’ve gotten from a book subscription box. I can’t wait to read it!

Next month’s theme is Morally Grey! Make sure to check out my other subscription box openings here!
